Woodcuts

There are currently no schools teaching you the art of making woodcuts. Many people who practice woodcuts or linoleum prints have very poor technique in terms of shading. My aim is to change that.

The golden era of woodcuts happened in the early 20th century. Artists like MC Escher, Paul Landacre an Wharton Esherick came to a style of shading that has not been topped since.

No books were written about their shading techniques, nor did any of these artists teach their knowledge on to the next generation.

My research over the past few years has been analyzing all possible woodcuts and the techniques used in detail, in order to find out exactly how these makers created their beautiful works.

This subject, and a practical approach to making your own woodcuts, are the main themes of the book I am currently writing for Lost Art Press.

In line with their philosophy, this really is a lost art and it is my target in life to give makers of woodcuts better technique and to revive the medium. It is my dream to inspire artists to pick up this technique and create beautiful works of art.
