This painting of an old vernacular Welsh Stick Chair was painted in greyscales on a piece of cherry wood. Notice the play between the different shades of grey, especially in the use of the shadows on the shiny seat and the sticks. The shadow of the chair continues onto the left of the frame, as if the chair pops out into the third dimension.
