Chair Models

November 14, 2018November 13, 2020 Rudy Everts

I have been thinking about a chair design that has been floating through my head and decided it would be a good idea to make a model before building the actual chair. I want to make a chair that has four legs but the two back legs splay towards each other to a point, making… Continue reading Chair Models

Finally found the perfect spot for my disobey sticker. @lostartpress
I'm making progress on my solid hull sailing ship. It is at times tedious work but very fun and different from the woodworking I normally do. The hull still needs some work, after that comr the masts and the rigging, which I am looking forward to the most. The little Lee Valley spokeshave I ordered from Dieter Schmidt @feinewerkzeuge last week has already come in very handy.
I've been going down the rabbit hole if making woodcuts since the beginning of this year. This is a design I have been working on, it is a Jennie Alexander chair that transforms into a cube. Or a cube that transforms into a Jennie Alexander chair, depending on how you look at it. I have printed this one on normal A3 paper and also on thin Japanese paper. Though the Japanese paper soaks up the ink very well and looks good, it is very thin. The thickness of the normal paper is nice but it's harder to print. I will probably try to get some more different paper types to try and see what I like the most.
We received this beautiful old print made in the 1920s from Liz's grandma. Her grandma's mother, Helen Dowd, mainly made paintings but also printed linoleum cuts for some time. She lived in San Diego and the ship depicted is not known to me. I love the distinct sparse lines of the picture. She was very talented.
I made a relief carving of an icosahedron (a platonic solid with 20 equal triangles). The carving is quite shallow, with sideways raking light the illusion is very convincing. Why did I make it? No idea. But I think the platonic solids have a certain peace about them when you look at them.
I wanted to use this piece of wood for a sculpture, but there was a big knot in it.
