Three-legged Welsh lowback chair
Three-legged Welsh lowback chair carved out of a piece of mystery wood. Possibly hazelnut.
Tall sail boat in the wind
Sail boat carved out of a piece of hard cherry wood.
Crawling lizard carved out of a solid piece of linden wood.
Abstract chip carving
This chip carving uses one element in many variations. The basic principle is a regular 90° triangle that is carved into the point. It gives a different shadow depending on how you hold it and creates a shifting pattern of areas that are lit or shadow.
Tiny Welsh chair
One of the smallest chairs I have carved. Linden wood. two long back sticks and 6 short sticks.
A spider carved out of a piece of linden wood. A very fun project with lots of undercutting and through-cutting. As a self-taught sculptor I am always looking for new challenges and this spider was one of the more fun projects I completed recently.
Axe in chopping block
I carved this axe several years ago out of a piece of birch wood. The reason the axe handle does not break off is because the piece of wood had a branch that grew sideways. This enabled me to use the long grain running at 90° to the stem for the handle, making it equally strong as its base.
Small wooden shoes
A pair of wooden shoes carved out of a hard piece of mirabelle wood. The sculpture is one piece. The wooden shoes are partially hollowed out but not fully, as I didn’t have the small tools needed to get to the tip.
Lie Nielsen 60 1/2 block plane sculpture
A copy of the famous block plane made by Lie Nielsen, out of a branch of linden wood.
Small sail boat
A small sail boat carved out of birch wood. The entire boat is carved out of wood including the sails, which have been carved very thinly.
Welsh armchair out of spalted birch. Truly one of a kind as I hardly ever use spalted wood for my sculptures.
Small Welsh stick chair carved out of hard apple wood.
Small sculpture of a Stanley 51 spokeshave. This was carved out of a piece of maple.
Welsh armchair carved in maple. With a wide seat and 12 short sticks, this armchair was very hard to carve due to the piece of maple being bone dry and rock hard.
